How AI can help beginners…or anyone needing help with camera settings.

We all know that Chat GPT and Claude are already amazing with helping edit our content, give us new ideas and help with SEO listings. But did you know you can also find out some tech info about a particular subject and get insight to the lighting and camera settings?

I uploaded a photo of mine and asking Claude to help me.

Below is my question/image and Claudes response. You can also do this with Chat GPT.

You should ask permission before uploading someone else’s image. This image is my own.

I think this is helpful when you are in a workshop and maybe can’t recall the settings.

Of course camera/lens/environment will vary but it may help guide you in the right direction.

To achieve an image similar to this one using your Canon 5D Mark IV and 24-70mm lens, you'll want to focus on creating a high-contrast silhouette effect. Here are some suggested camera settings and lighting tips:

Camera Settings:

1. Aperture: f/8 to f/11 for good depth of field

2. Shutter Speed: 1/125 to 1/250 sec

3. ISO: 100-400, depending on available light

4. Focal Length: Around 50mm, but adjust as needed for composition

Lighting:

The key to this image is backlighting. You'll need:

1. A bright, diffused light source behind the subject (like a large softbox or window)

2. Minimal to no front lighting on the subject

3. White or light-colored background

Technique:

1. Position the subject between the camera and the light source

2. Expose for the background to create the silhouette effect

3. Use spot metering on the brightest part of the background

4. Adjust your camera's exposure compensation to -1 or -2 to deepen the silhouette if needed

Post-processing:

1. Increase contrast

2. Adjust levels to pure black and pure white

3. Convert to black and white if shot in color

Remember to communicate clearly with your subject about the pose and ensure a comfortable, safe environment. Would you like any additional information about achieving this look?
